Wow! It has sure been long since I shared anything with you guys! Anyway, I have tons of things to throw your way and this time I’m going to talk about efficient packing, or how I like to do it.
The Art of Efficient Packing… *facepalm*
As girls and as “over-excited over a trip” girls, we always end up packing tons of stuff we wouldn’t even need when we actually get there. Besides, there are more clothing pieces of women than those of men. Not to mention the toiletries and accessories, which most of us NEVER like to leave behind. So when it comes to packing, the struggle is real guys… The Struggle… IS REAL.
Oddly enough, I have always traveled for multiple purposes and for longer periods than just a week or two. Over time, I have learned ways to minimize the hassle of unnecessary packing, which ALWAYS leads to ridiculously heavy baggage.
DO YOUR RESEARCH ABOUT THE DESTINATION
Efficient Packing Lesson Number one! No matter what, the packing really depends on the destination. If it’s snowing over there, you are bound to take coats and sweaters with you. Even if it is cold on the arriving end, nothing helps better than a stuffed coat or a fleece coat. Just carry one of those in your hand. No luggage space or weight taken. And you will live to tell the tale…
Otherwise if you are going to a tropical place, your baggage really shouldn’t weight of anything! I mean, how much weight would tank tops, short-shorts and flip-flops mount up to?
Organization is key to efficient packing. Make the best use of all the little pouches, boxes, kits and vanity bags that you have. From safety pins to medicine to laundry, try making little bags for everything. It will be so much easier to decide what goes in which pouch. Your packing wont only be neat, but also super organized. Not a darn thing will be lost.
DON’T DUMP STUFF!
For sure! Even if you are travelling on a short notice, you need to take a step back from your closet and relax for a bit. Really take your time in deciding what and how much of “what” you will actually need. Don’t pack 10 different styles of clothing for a 5 day trip. You will end up using only 3 of them. PROMISE!
MIX AND MATCH
The oldest trick in the book when it comes to efficient packing. There is nothing much to brag about in this area, almost everyone is already smart enough to do this. Take about three tops with every pair of jeans or tights. Its a great cheat for us selfie fanatics too.
ONE THING AT A TIME
Don’t try to pack everything in one go. Take small intervals in between. If you packed your clothes, then stop right there. Leave it for a bit. Come back after 5 minutes then pack your makeup, then take a break and so on. Sounds stupid right? But it seriously helps. Here’s how:
Looking at one thing for a long time slows your brain down and tires you out. So if you take breaks and then do it, it wouldn’t be so tiring or boring or overdone.
Even with intervals, one day is enough for “efficient” packing. Unless you are moving of course!
PACK DARK AND BOLD COLORS
Oh yes! Not only dark colors would save you the trouble of washing your laundry over and over, but also, the pictures you will take will turn out really nice. So take all the maroons and blacks with you.
KEEP AN EXTRA PAIR IN YOUR CABIN BAGGAGE
No one feels like unpacking after they have a gazillion hours of cabin plane on them. So keep an extra pair of clothes in your hand baggage (your night suit, a towel, or another set of work pants, anything!).
LEAVE SOME THINGS UNPACKED
Leave some of the petty items lying in the baggage for your next trip. Towels, Cotton buds, Sanitary napkins, a nail kit, bobby pins etc is exactly the kind of stuff you should not even bother about unpacking. It would save you a bucket load of time the next time you get down to pack your bags. Then pat yourself on the back and call yourself an efficient packing pro.
AN AVID TRAVELER?
I am glad to inform you that you are exempted from all the above things and this one is especially for you.
You just need one small baggage piece. Put 2-3 pieces of clothing in it, a little towel. Put a little manicure kit there, some travel-sized toiletries. Maybe some neutral colored makeup and a nude lipstick and presto! Leave it lying there at all times. You don’t even need to re-pack your stuff every time.
So Who’s planning a holiday? I hope this helps you shedding off some of the baggage weight. Happy packing. Ciao!
